Headquarters, Prague 2019

Designing the newly opened headquarters of Optimist in Prague was a challenging yet rewarding experience for me as a designer working with nod studios. The project presented a unique set of constraints, primarily centered around a tight budget. To overcome this, we embraced the design brief creativity and resourcefulness.

We used "Ikea hacks" to transform affordable IKEA furniture into custom pieces that fit the client's precise notes. With a clear focus on accommodating a specific number of working individuals and creating an industrial ambiance, we carefully curated the space to achieve a perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics.

The heart of the design lay in infusing an industrial feel into the headquarters while preserving a warm and inviting atmosphere.  However, we knew that the space needed a touch of nature to soften the overall ambiance so we introduced an abundance of greenery throughout the office. The juxtaposition of industrial elements with lush plant life created a harmonious and refreshing environment, allowing employees to feel connected to nature while they work. In response to the client's vision for a comfortable and inviting workspace, we ingeniously blended the industrial elements with cozy soft seating areas. These spaces served as inviting retreats where employees could unwind and collaborate.

What I learned

The experience of working within tight budget constraints taught me resourcefulness and creativity, enabling me to transform affordable materials into unique and personalized solutions. Moreover, understanding and executing the client's precise brief honed my ability to actively listen and interpret their needs accurately.
