Alpine Bau

Headquarters Concept, Berlin 2021

The challenge of this project was clear: to seamlessly blend the rustic charm of the Swiss mountains with a modern interpretation that would resonate with the bustling urban landscape of Berlin. Determined to create a space that exudes warmth and authenticity, I set out to infuse wood throughout the office to evoke a cozy alpine cabin ambiance while maintaining a sleek, contemporary aesthetic.

In interpreting the  the design brief and the client’s wishes, my vision was to create a harmonious coexistence between the natural and the contemporary. A focal point was to introduce wood as a foundational element, adorning the interiors with rich, textured timber finishes, reclaimed from sustainable sources. Greenery and the color palette that reflected the spirit of the company played a pivotal role in the creative process.

The reception area would showcase a stunning wooden feature wall, intricately carved with mountain silhouettes, emblematic of Alpine Bau's Swiss roots. Alongside, green walls inspired by alpine scenery would adorn the walls, bringing a touch of nature into the space.

Additionally, the open workspaces and community areas would feature custom-designed wooden elements, mirroring the comfort of a mountain lodge, fostering a welcoming and productive atmosphere for employees. As the concept for Alpine Bau's Berlin office came to life, the synthesis of rustic mountain charm and contemporary aesthetics unfolded into a space that celebrated the company's heritage while embracing its future.

What I learned

This project reinforced the importance of understanding and respecting a client's cultural roots and heritage when creating a design that truly resonates with their identity and values. I learned the significance of incorporating sustainable materials into the design process, not only for environmental reasons but also to imbue spaces with a sense of authenticity and purpose.
